Adelaide to be home to australian space agency

Adelaide, South Australia has been confirmed as the future home of Australia’s Space Agency. Officially announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Premier Steven Marshall this morning (12 December), the Agency is set to be the centerpiece of Adelaide’s new innovation neighbourhood, Lot Fourteen, which is conveniently located just a short stroll from the Convention Centre.
“We’re thrilled by the announcement that Adelaide will be home to Australia’s Space Agency,” says Simon Burgess, General Manager, Adelaide Convention Centre. “Plans for the Australian Space Agency were first announced by the Federal Government at the 68th International Astronautical Congress, which was held here at our Centre last year. To have the Space Agency set up in Adelaide is fantastic news and a great legacy for the event.”
The Space Agency is set to be located in Adelaide by mid-2019, and will employ 20 full-time equivalent staff. Additional information can be found online, here.
LOT FOURTEEN
Adelaide’s reputation for innovation continues to grow with the arrival of Lot Fourteen, a new innovation neighbourhood positioned on the site of the former Royal Adelaide Hospital, just a short stroll from the Convention Centre.
Officially launched by His Royal Highness, Prince Andrew, The Duke of York KG in November, the seven-hectare Lot Fourteen is Australia’s first creation and innovation hub, and is being designed and curated for future thinkers, researchers, entrepreneurs and seasoned business leaders to search and discover together. Once complete, it will house a fascinating mix of some of the world’s fastest growing industries, such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, robotics, defence and space technologies, media and creative industries and more.
A key element of the development, which is expected to be fully established within the next five years, is a new start-up hub space.
“The South Australian Government has an ambition to have a higher rate of business start-ups in our state than anywhere else in Australia,” said Premier Steven Marshall in a recent press release.
“A smaller state like South Australia provides the ideal environment for entrepreneurs to grow their ideas and this Hub will give them the necessary tools and allow easier collaboration, which will ultimately let them thrive in fast growing industries including cyber security, defence, space and robotics.”
From a conferencing perspective, the establishment of Lot Fourteen further reinforces South Australia’s strengths in the fields of technology, innovation and discovery.
