A hub for knowledge transfer: national science week at the centre

Posted 28 August 2019

Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC) was proud to support National Science Week (10 – 18 August), sponsoring a series of fascinating events held at the venue.

From the very special ‘In Conversation with Dr Richard Harris’ event to ‘Great Moments in Science with Dr Karl Kruszelnicki’, and ‘From Vine to Mind’ hosted by wine scientists from the Australian Wine Research Institute, the docket of science-focused events further reinforced the Centre’s reputation as a leading hub for knowledge transfer.

Beyond the keynote presentations, National Science Week at the Centre was highlighted by the 15th annual South Australian Science Excellence Awards, recognising and celebrating the outstanding work of our State’s STEM researchers, leaders and educators.

Our congratulations goes to all 2019 finalists and award winners, including University of Adelaide neurogenetics Professor Jozef Gecz, who was named SA Scientist of the Year. Professor Gecz is a global leader in the genetics and biology of childhood disability, including epilepsy, autism and cerebral palsy.

In addition to honouring our State’s leading lights, the SA Science Excellence Awards also provided a fitting platform for the launch of the 2019 Conventions Adelaide Grant Awards program, designed to attract major international conventions to Adelaide in the areas of life sciences, technology, research and innovation.
