ADELAIDE, South Australia (16 April, 2018) – The Adelaide Convention Centre’s (ACC) commitment to innovation was celebrated at the Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) South Australia Industry Awards last week with the expanded venue judged SA’s leading ‘Meetings, Exhibition or Event Venue – Capacity more than 500’.
The accolade comes on the heels of the ACC’s $397m redevelopment, which not only transformed Adelaide’s skyline with two new buildings, significantly increasing the venue’s capacity, but saw the ACC reborn as Australia’s newest, most flexible and most technologically advanced convention centre. The ACC now progresses on to the MEA National Industry Awards next month.
“This latest accolade recognises our ongoing commitment to innovation in the business events space,” comments Simon Burgess, General Manager, Adelaide Convention Centre. “There’s a great buzz about Adelaide at the moment and we’re receiving lots of enquiries with everything that is happening along the Adelaide Riverbank.”
Last week’s MEA South Australia Industry Awards fittingly coincided with Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID), which unites the international business events industry, bringing together leaders from all MICE sectors to showcase the real impact face-to-face meetings have on not only those attending, but business and communities. Since the Adelaide Convention Centre opened its doors in 1987, the venue has delivered more than $1.4 billion in economic benefit to South Australia. The recently expanded venue is expected to inject an additional $1.92 billion into the local South Australian economy over the next 25 years.
The MEA South Australia venue award also came on the eve of the Australian Tourism Exchange, Australia’s largest annual travel and tourism business-to-business event, which is taking place at the ACC this week (15 – 19 April). Looking ahead, the Adelaide Convention Centre will play host to the ‘Accelerate’ 2018 MEA National Conference, 6 – 8 May, closely followed by the Australian Society of Association of Executives Conference and Exhibition – ‘ACE 2018 – Ignite Your Thinking’ (AuSAE), 28 – 30 May.
Burgess adds, “We’re humbled by this industry award and thrilled to welcome ATE, MEA and AuSAE to our venue in the coming weeks. Each presents a great opportunity to welcome our industry to our destination to not only showcase our new facilities and innovation, but Adelaide’s ongoing transformation.”
