The Riverbank Precinct is undoubtedly one of South Australia’s most important and recognisable public places in terms of its social, economic and cultural value to the state. Encompassing 380 hectares of land around the River Torrens, from Gilberton in the east through to Bonython Park and Bowden in the north-west, the precinct is home to many of Adelaide’s most significant buildings and spaces.

Precinct Zones

The Riverbank Precinct comprises distinctive zones – all home to a series of buildings and destinations for various activities.

The Conference Zone

The Conference Zone lies at the heart of the Riverbank Precinct and is home to the expanded Adelaide Convention Centre.

Its idyllic location on the banks to the River Torrens gives conference delegates and visitors room to breathe and helps to open up people’s minds to new possibilities.

The Conference Zone’s location provides direct connection with the other key Zones, and strong relationships ensure event organisers and delegates are connected with this innovative ecosystem.

The Medical Zone

The Medical Zone, dubbed BioMed City, is Adelaide’s world-class $3 billion health, bioscience and research hub. The largest of its kind in the Southern hemisphere.




The Education Zones

The Education Zones are located at both the Western and Eastern ends of the Riverbank Precinct. they include both the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia.

The Entertainment Zone

The Entertainment Zone is home to the soon to be redeveloped Adelaide Festival Centre and Plaza and Adelaide Casino, which will include a luxury hotel and ample retail space.

The Sporting zone

The Sporting Zone is home to the redeveloped Adelaide Oval, which is located on the northern side of the River Torrens, and just a short walk over the new Riverbank Bridge.
