The Adelaide Convention Centre’s leadership position in sustainable practices has been reinforced with the company achieving EarthCheck Gold certification for the fourth consecutive year. EarthCheck is the world’s leading environmental management and professional services group for the travel and tourism industry, and the internationally respected EarthCheck Program is used by more than 1,100 organisations across 65 countries. The Adelaide Convention Centre has actively participated in the EarthCheck program since 2007, and consistently performs at above best practice in several key areas of natural resource preservation.

One key focus of our sustainability efforts is food rescue; as of July 2017, we had donated in excess of 73,000 individual meals to OzHarvest and 56,000 to Foodbank respectively. Our commitment to food rescue was further demonstrated by our recent participation in THINK.EAT.SAVE, a community initiative operated by OzHarvest to raise awareness of global and local food waste and how to reduce its impact. Held at the University of Adelaide, the 2017 event saw our chefs team up with others from around Adelaide to serve more than 2,500 free hot lunches, 1,000 desserts and some 500 smoothies – all made from rescued ingredients!
