Revolutionary new e-water system SA first

The Adelaide Convention Centre continues to lead the way with its environmental initiatives becoming the first South Australian based company to install a revolutionary new cleaning and sanitising system that uses just water, salt and electricity.

Performing as well as and better than traditional chemicals, the e-water ROX (Reduced Oxygen) system uses electrolysed water to clean and sanitise on contact.

Not only will the new system help save the environment by replacing harmful chemicals with water, the Adelaide Convention Centre also expects to save $12,000 on cleaning products in the first year alone.

"This is the way of the future: an effective, efficient and safe system that will ensure that the Adelaide Convention Centre remains at the forefront of global environmental initiatives," Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert says.

"It also provides our clients with peace of mind, particularly those who suffer from allergies and are sensitive to the cocktail of cleaning products that are used in most places today."

The ROX system combines ordinary tap water, a mild salt solution and an electrical current to produce alkaline cleaning water and acidic sanitising water. Its installation follows a raft of accolades and achievements that have cemented the Adelaide Convention Centre's reputation as one of the most socially responsible organisations on the planet.

In July, the Adelaide Convention Centre became the first convention centre in Australia to attain Green Globe Silver certification, joining a select group of countries across the globe.

The Centre also recently beat tough worldwide competition to win two prestigious international awards - the 2009 IMEX Green Supplier Silver Award for environmental excellence and the AIPC Innovation Award for its food waste minimisation program.

And early last year, Adelaide Convention Centre became the first convention centre in Australia to offer Go for Green conference packages that help conference organisers reduce the carbon footprint of events while also receiving international attention when it established a worm farm to munch through up to 350kg of organic waste each week.

"When you consider our outstanding levels of professionalism and service and our commitment to the environment, it's no wonder that Adelaide is regarded as Australia's convention city," Mr Gilbert said.
