The key to pregnancy, medical science, thrombosis and dementia
The Adelaide Convention Centre has attracted another group of international medical conferences that once again capitalises on South Australia's outstanding reputation in medicine.
The latest event to be hosted at the Centre was the IFPA (International Federation of Placenta Associations) meeting, attracting 250 delegates from across the globe. Pivotal for a successful pregnancy, research into the placenta was presented by nine internationally renowned researchers along with eight prominent researchers from Australia.
In the past six months alone, 11 major medical and scientific events have been held at the Adelaide Convention Centre including International Surgery Week - the 43rd World Congress of the International Society of Surgeons attracting 1500 attendees from 79 countries.
And in addition to the IFPA conference, three other major medical conferences are planned at the Adelaide Convention Centre in October alone including the:
- Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) 2009 National Scientific Meeting from 12 to 16 October, attracting more than 400 delegates who will learn about new tests, techniques and technologies for all pathology disciplines.
- The combined Annual Scientific Meeting of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ), the Australian and New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion (ANZSBT) and the Australasian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ASTH) from 18 to 21 October 2009. Known as HAA 2009, the conference will feature new and important developments in the fields of haematology, blood transfusion and thrombosis at medical, scientific and nursing levels. Thirteen prominent international speakers will join force with local experts to challenge and educate in lectures, master classes and informal discussions with a display on cutting edge technology and therapies. About 850 delegates are expected to attend.
- The 4th International CECD Conference (Creative Expression, Communication & Dementia) from 21 to 23 October, connecting 150 like-minded people committed to the search for new ideas and approaches that enrich the lives of seniors. The Canadian Founder of CECD, Dalia Gottlieb-Tanaka, will attend the conference which this year is collaboration between the Society for the Arts in Dementia Care and Aged and Community Services, South Australia and Northern Territory. The conference offers everything from Clown Doctors and Japanese Theatre to a thought-provoking art exhibition and experts in the creative fields.
Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert says the value of these prestigious medical events is enormous with recent conferences injecting about $31.5m into the local economy.
"Adelaide is now regarded as a 'thinking city' and our sales team has been able to use this credibility to Adelaide's advantage," Mr. Gilbert says.
"As a consequence we have been successful in enticing some of the world's most prestigious medical and scientific events and conferences to South Australia."
The international award-winning Adelaide Convention Centre has a professional team that has assisted each of these international conferences to meet their goals, providing exceptional facilities, a green and clean venue and the ability to make each event an outstanding success.
