Adelaide Convention Centre has once again proved its flexibility transforming itself into a concert venue for jazz and soul legend Roberta Flack, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and more than 2000 enthusiastic fans.
The non-traditional venue "added a new dimension to the concert experience" according to ASO Marketing and Development Manager Vicky Lekis.
"The Centre has great flexibility and versatility in transforming the space for multi purposes," she said. "It has the capacity for our larger scale events and is equipped with the latest technology and facilities. With its picturesque surrounds and the music making of the ASO, audiences enjoyed a magical night out."
It was the first time the singer, known throughout the world for songs such as Killing Me Softly with his Song, The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and Jesse, had performed in South Australia and the first time the Adelaide Convention Centre had worked with the ASO.
Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said concert goers had experienced a great evening in two halls transformed for the occasion with many prolonging the mellow mood post-concert in the Chill Out coffee lounge and bar in the glass-walled foyer overlooking the River Torrens.
"We've been working with the ASO on various concepts for more than 12 months and the result is an event that pushes the boundaries to provide an experience that goes well beyond what people would normally expect," Mr Gilbert said.
"Once again we continue to showcase our ability to host everything from high-profile international conventions to intimate cocktail parties - and almost every imaginable event in between."
Roberta Flack has four Grammy Awards, had 30 internationally charted singles and has earned a place in Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
