ACC new riverside conference space popular choice:
Friday, 1 February 2008

Adelaide Convention Centre's new Riverbank Lawn area event space is proving popular with a number of conference organisers booking the unique space to enhance their event.

Already cocktail parties, barbecues and themed events have been held on the site as well as dinners in a 25x50m marquee that can accommodate up to 1000 guests.

"The Riverbank Lawn is an exceptional space - no other convention centre in Australia can boast such a terrific outdoor area beside a waterway," Mr Gilbert said.

"It was recently used at the Land Warfare Conference 2007 and proved to be a resounding success. The view from the marquee across the water was stunning creating an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere appreciated by both delegates and the client."

While the Riverbank Lawn was successfully trialled for the World, Police and Fire Games in March as the Games Village (the social hub of the Games), further cosmetic improvements to the site have since been carried out, including paving, levelling of the site and a new staircase from the centre to the lawn.

"International and national conferences are getting bigger, taking up more space. This new area will provide our clients with greater flexibility to ensure their event is a success," Mr Gilbert said.

Mr Gilbert praised both the South Australian Government and Adelaide City Council for supporting the Riverbank Lawn development project.

In addition, he acknowledged the support of the South Australian Tourism Commission and South Australian icon Coopers Brewery which helped to purchase the marquee which will be used on the site.
