MEDIA RELEASE
The Adelaide Convention Centre's inaugural hospitality trainees graduated at a ceremony held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 6 August. They received Accreditation Registration Council (ARC) Trainee Certificates, and Certificate 2 in Hospitality (Operations), which qualifies them to proceed to study Certificates 3 and 4, and then to Diploma, Advanced Diploma and eventually a Degree in Hospitality. The programme was formulated with the assistance of Business SA's Apprentice Centre and is registered with the State Training Authority.
The four, Rocky Oliviera, Kelly Hunt, Blanche Appelt and Lisa Longhurst, are the first intake in what is now an ongoing programme of taking school leavers direct from Year 12 into a twelve month course. Conducted on the job, with theory training held in a training centre within the Centre's building purpose-fitted for this programme, trainees are exposed to constant, practical hands-on experience in a real situation.
Trainees progressed through Stewarding, Banqueting, Kitchen and House Services, and also had practical experience working in Regattas Bistro, the Adelaide Convention Centre's five-star casual dining venue. Regattas has received wide acclaim from food writers and the general public, and is probably the benchmark for Adelaide restaurants, and certainly the most professionally conducted bistro in the State.
The Adelaide Convention Centre is a Registered Training Organisation with the authority to issue qualifications in certain subjects equal to that of a TAFE or University.
Released by the Adelaide Convention Centre 4 August 2003.
