2010 Green Supplier 'Gold' Award Announced at IMEX
The Adelaide Convention Centre has been crowned the 2010 Green Supplier 'Gold' Award at the IMEX trade show - a worldwide exhibition for the incentive travel, meetings and events industry- in Frankfurt, Germany last night.
Developed by IMEX and the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC), the achievement recognises the environmental excellence and innovation within the meetings industry. The top honour received by the Adelaide Convention Centre is further testament to the innovative efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the Centre's operations through planning, implementation and evaluation.
Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Officer, Alec Gilbert, is thrilled to garner the 'gold' after the Centre's 2009 Green Supplier 'Silver' Award. The Centre's Gold Service, Green Attitude has been recognised yet again for providing clients with premium quality while also maintaining a superb commitment to sustainability.
"Part of the superior product we provide is our commitment to environmental sustainability and we have numerous initiatives in place to reduce our carbon footprint to allow us to provide gold service with green attitude," he said.
In the past few years, Adelaide Convention Centre has continually benchmarked its environmental standards against the world's best.
"Winning the IMEX Green Supplier 'Gold' Award is fantastic acknowledgment of our success in implementing sustainable practices across all aspects of the Adelaide Convention Centre operation and we are proud of what we have achieved in terms of minimising our impact on the local environment and influencing others to partner with us in achieving our environmental and corporate social responsibility goals," Mr Gilbert said.
The Adelaide Convention Centre's sustainable service includes low-mile food catering, carbon offset programs, and various sustainable initiatives such as a worm farm and waste recycling, as well as the excellent communication of these efforts to key stakeholders and customers.
The Centre continues to 'punch above its weight' with the 'Gold' Green Supplier win coming within a month of its second consecutive MEA Awards, and two months after the Adelaide Convention Centre's second consecutive win at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards for the Meetings and Business Tourism category.
The Adelaide Convention Centre hosted in excess of 600 events, attended by more than 300,000 people and attracting 28,000 visitors to South Australia in the last year.
